BORO’D & BLUE Japanese textiles weekend 29-30 September
Join Aviva for another Japanese-themed textiles workshop with Hiroko Aeno-Bilson, exploring Japanese textile culture, sampling delicious food !
Saturday 29 September 10 – 1 Indigo Social – upcycle fabric, clothes and yarn in the indigo vat
‘Indigo social’ with the theme of up-cycling with indigo. Bring your old fabrics and clothing and breathe new life into them by dip dyeing them with indigo.
There will be a variety of indigo vats available to try – get warm blues from woad, earthy blues from an organic fruit vat and the traditional deep blue from a Japanese style indigo vat.
£15 studio/booking fee includes refreshments. Drop in any time between 1000 and 1400 – allow at least 2 hours for dyeing.
Your own fabrics must be 100% natural (cotton, linen or silk is best) and pre-washed. Dye charge 5p per gram payable on the day.
Sunday 30 September 10-4 – Boro stitch and mending workshop
Hiroko will teach you how to create “Boro” – patched and mended, quilted & stitched – using the fabrics you have dyed and a selection of upcycled denim and antique Japanese fabrics. you will learn a variety of stitch techniques to create a unique bag.
