mindful making

Aviva creates contemporary textiles that considers provenance of materials used.
Her work embodies sustainable practices that include natural dyeing , weaving and ‘slow stitching’ using upcycled materials.

“mindful making means finding a quieter, slower pace, away from distractions and busy-ness – finding time for total immersion in the work, space for contemplation and a chance to value and use every precious scrap of material.”

The slow stitch workshop, 8-13 February  in the Atrium at the Forum in Norwich, offers the public a chance to drop in and learn how to create a freeform patchwork piece that will become part of a larger quilt.

The workshops are free, and all equipment is provided, but participants are asked to bring one item of preloved clothing (denim or printed/plain cotton preferred) to contribute to the shared fabric resources.

Aviva will also be sharing her process and inspiration in  an illustrated talk in the auditorium at The Forum on Friday 12 February at 6pm. Tickets on the door £5 includes drink and entry to lucky draw to win the finished quilt.

Aviva loves to share her knowledge and inspire others through her workshops and retreats held in Norfolk at her coastal studio near Happisburgh and further afield in Essaouira, Morocco, where she offers creative textile experiences inspired by local colour and culture.
