In collaboration with Hiroko Aeno-Billson – a weekend of textile workshops, inspiring stories and wonderful Japanese food. You will leave with a hand-stitched double sided “furoshiki” wrapping cloth and a selection of indigo dyed samples for future stitch projects.
Saturday 19 August – ‘Katazome’ and indigo dye workshops with Aviva
Inspired by this ancient Japanese technique, create your own stencil to use to print resist paste onto cotton cloth.
Enjoy a delicious ‘Bento’ lunch made by Hiroko then spend the afternoon dyeing your cloths in a natural indigo vat to achieve deep blue shades. The cloths will then be washed and dried, ready for you to use in the stitch workshop on the Sunday
Sunday 20 August – ‘ChikuChiku’ and Furoshiki workshops with Hiroko
combine the printed and plain indigo squares with ‘crazy Sashiko‘ stitching to create a unique stitched double-sided ‘furoshiki’ wrapping cloth to take home.
Aviva will demonstrate how to prepare a delicious ‘Hiyashi Chuka’ noodle dish with healthy vegetarian ingredients that we will all enjoy when we break for lunch.
Each workshop is stand alone and costs £85. This includes all materials, refreshments and lunch.
