Wad to Window Part 4.. cloth to curtains
The final part of the story behind a specially commissioned set of handwoven curtains - crafted from plant dyed hand spun #Siroua wool.
FINISHING THE CLOTH AND MAKING THE CURTAINS
After the cloth was woven, it was taken back to my studio to be carefully checked and hand finished with a gentle steam.
Then on to @pascale_met_les_voiles, my lovely neighbour at @lecarrenomade and an expert seamstress with years of experience in couture and soft furnishings for the home. Working with her assistant, she carefully stitched the panels together, adding lining and pinch pleats to the top, ready for hanging.
The client wanted good quality cloth that would sit quietly within the space, complementing the intricate window frames and colourful traditional painted ceilings. The natural colours of the henna dyed wool offer a stylish solution with a wonderful back story.
This project involved the hands of so many skilled artisans, from the women in the mountain village who washed and spun the wool, the dyer who created the gorgeous colours using his knowledge, the weavers who wove the cloth and lastly the seamstress who created something wonderful from this special cloth.
The curtains hung in their new home. A celebration of craftsmanship and colour.
